1 security man killed, 6 injured in militant's attack on district court Kohat.

The Nation | 09 Sep 2013 :: One security man was killed and six injured when armed militants attacked office of DPO Kohat located in the premises of district court on Monday.

According to DPO Kohat office, eight to ten militants attacked district court with hand grenades and heavy arms. 

Exchange of fire took place between the attackers and security forces within the court premises as four security men were reported injured.

Two attacking militants were also killed as the security forces retaliated the attack, informed an official of DPO office. While remaining attackers escaped from the scene.

Presently Police has surrounded the area and evacuated people from the court and offices.

BEIRUT | 20 Aug 2013 :: A Lebanese and two Palestinians suspected of planning a massive car bombing have been arrested, just days after a deadly attack on Hezbollah's southern Beirut bastion, the General Security agency said.

The men were accused of "setting up a terrorist group and conducting activities that affect security on Lebanese territory," according to a statement late Monday.

"They were preparing to stage an attack using an Audi car containing 250 kg (550 pounds) of explosives."

The car was seized in the Naameh area of southern Beirut two days after a car bomb killed 27 people in a bastion of Shiite militant party Hezbollah, a close ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

On Friday, the government said the army identified a network of people suspected of trying to carry out several car bomb attacks in southern Beirut.

The Thursday attack was the deadliest in Lebanon since a car bomb attack killed former prime minister Rafiq Hariri and 22 others in February 2005.

It was claimed by a previously unknown cell, whose name has strong Sunni connotations, with a spokesman saying in a video distributed online that it was a response to Hezbollah's support for Assad.

BEIJING | AP | 20 Jul 2013 ::  A man in a wheelchair set off a homemade bomb in a crowded terminal at Beijing’s main airport on Saturday evening, injuring himself but no one else, Chinese state media and witnesses said.

Order was quickly restored and no flights were affected by the explosion at Terminal 3, the airport’s main international terminal, state-run China Central Television said on its microblog.

The official Xinhua News Agency said a wheel-chaired Chinese man set off the device outside the arrivals exit of Terminal 3 at Beijing Capital International Airport at around 6:24 p.m. It said the man was being treated for injuries, but that no one else was hurt in the explosion.

“The explosion sound was loud,” said a witness who gave only his family name, Chen. He said he was only 25 meters (27 yards) away from the explosion when it occurred.

Chen said there was only one explosion, and that the terminal was crowded with people. “Since there was no second explosion, many people took out their phones and gathered near the explosion spot to take photos,” he said.

He said police responded to the explosion immediately.

CCTV, which also reported that no one else was hurt, identified the man in the wheelchair as Ji Zhongxing, born in 1979 and from the eastern province of Shandong.

It was not immediately clear why the man allegedly set off the bomb. Police are investigating the incident, Xinhua said.

Photos posted by CCTV on its microblog showed the area near the arrivals exit empty and filled with smoke. One photo showed medical staff and police officers gathering at one spot, with a wheelchair sitting on its side a few steps away.

Reached by phone, the airport’s news office said it was not aware of the explosion, and airport police declined to answer questions.

Terminal 3, which opened in 2008 just ahead of the Beijing Olympics, is the airport’s hub for international flights. United Airlines and American Airlines operate out of the terminal. Calls to both carriers were not answered Saturday night in China.(Courtesy: Times of Israel)

KABUL | 01 June 2013:: Two soldiers and a civilian with the NATO-led military alliance in Afghanistan died on Saturday in two separate attacks in the country’s east.

The NATO-led International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) in a statement said one soldier and “one ISAF civilian” were killed during a “direct fire attack.” Separately, another soldier was killed in a roadside bomb blast in the same region, according to allied troops.

The NATO troops did not give further details about the incident.

In May, 26 foreign soldiers were killed in Afghanistan, making it the deadliest month since the beginning of this year. [Courtesy: The Hindu and EPA].
